Chanderkhani Malana Trek

Chanderkhani is ruling the region of Kullu, Himachal Pradesh at the height of 3660 meters above sea. This breathtaking Chanderkhani Pass trek is an amalgamation of jaw-dropping sights and the thrilling mountains alongside the gorgeous environs of Himachal Pradesh. Chanderkhani pass is a heaven for nature lovers as it is bedecked with the beautiful flower beds, vast stretches of dense forests of Pine, Oak and Birch. The flower beds cover the pass with a colorful carpet. The trail for Chanderkhani Pass actually starts from the Rumsu village which is a tribal village with beautiful temples, walls of which are made out of carvings in wood and surrounded by the tall and sacred Deodar trees.

One would witness the heritage village, which has recently been urbanized. Houses here are made with wood and stone which are interesting to see in the rural architecture. The ascend from Rumsu leads you to the sudden shift in the scenery as you see meadows of Stelling and Ghon Kradi which are perfect locations for putting up the tents amidst the panoramic views. As you go up the trail, the whole of the Beas valley opens up to you. You begin to see the Dhauladar Range beyond the Beas valley in all its snowcapped glory. The terrain leading uphill is slightly steep and worth taking up the challenge as you forget the fatigue and discomfort with the beautiful views greeting you at the summit.

As you descend down the Chanderkhani pass, a stay at Nagruni campsite gives you the night’s rest to continue with the Malana trek. A few kilometers walk from Nagruni campsite will lead you to this ancient village of Malana known of for its hidden secrets. The two peaks of Chanderkhani and Deo Tibba shadow this village of Malana. The village is untouched from the modernization and urbanization and is isolated from the rest of the world. Malana trek takes you through the village known for its vintage culture, its own lifestyle and social structure and people are strict in following their customs. Some of the world’s finest Hashish (Marijuana) grows here which attracts tourists from all over the world.

  1. Day1 Naggar – Rumsu– Stelling

    This day, we assemble at Naggar. The group will be picked from Naggar Junction and will drop at Rumsu village and begin the Chanderkhani Pass trekking experience right away. The activity is a delightful one amidst Blue Pine and deodar, walnut, golden oak and wild cherry areas. Once at this place, you ascend for around an hour or more to the path that brings you to Rumsu Village. From here, there is a clear route that takes you to Stelling pastures. Tonight, you will sleep in tents.

  2. Day2 Stelling – Chaklani Basecamp

    This day, enjoy a hike that would first be on charming Stelling and Ghalkrari pasture stretches. When at this place you can see Birch trees. Sometime during the course of the Chanderkhani Pass trek, you take a steady ascend to the Chaklani basecamp. Tonight, you will sleep in tents.

  3. Day3 Chaklani Basecamp – Chanderkhani Pass – Nagruni Thach

    Your whole trekking journey provides stunning sights of snow-clad mountains and charming open valleys. Today, you ascend to the Dhalakda Pathar and later proceed to a steady uphill on the ridge of the Chanderkhani Pass. From here, soak in the great views of Bara Bangal range in the west, Pir Panjal to the north and Parvati in the east. After that you start your climb down gets steeper when on the way to Nagruni as compared to the climb up to the Pass. Tread carefully and arrive at the camping ground of Nagruni where you will pitch tents for the night.

  4. Day4 Trek from Nagruni Thach to Malana

    This day, the path from Nagruni carries on to an at times steep downhill till you arrive at Malana. Enjoy the trek that is a charming one amidst conifer forest. Arrive at Malana Village and pitch your tents for the night. The camp will be set near Malana Village.

  5. Day5 Trek from Malana to Jari and drop at Kasol/Bhunter

    Today morning, you carry on with the downhill climb on a steep through a route that is marked well till Jari. At first, you go downhill amidst fields and then pass through a woody area of mostly Deodar trees. Proceed downhill to Manala Nallah. When at this place, cross the gorge area and arrive at Manala Power project site. Proceed walking to Jari, from where you hop in to a vehicle to be driven to Bhunter/Kasol. Chanderkhani Pass trek ends here.
