Bagini Glacier Trek

Bagini  Glacier Trek is one of the most beautiful glaciers in the Himalayas. At an altitude of 14,816 ft from the sea level, it sits at the bases of the Trishuli and Changbang peaks, and flows northwards from there. The melt waters of the Bagini runs westward, where it marries the Drunagiri glacier waters coming down from the Purbi Dronagiri ridge. Further west they are joined by the Lampak stream and they finally flow into the Dhauli Ganga, just north of Jumma village. Cuddled into stunning heights, this trail allures with captivating grassy stretched canvassed with vibrant wild flowers, crystal clear glacial streams, sights of frosty summits, adventurous rocks and boulder ridden paths and scenic hamlets, nestled within the captivating mountains. This trek also gives the trekkers the chance to visit the base camp of the mighty Changabang peak. With views of the intriguing Changabang, Kalanka, Trishuli, Dronagiri, Hathi and Ghora peaks, this trail is a compulsion for adventure lovers.

  1. Day1 Drive from Haridwar – Joshimath(6700ft)

    When you arrive at Haridwar in the morning, you will be picked up at the railway station and the journey begins from here to Joshimath. Joshimath was a hamlet founded by Adi Shankaracharya among the other three and is dotted with many beautiful temples like Gari Bhawani Temple, Tapovan and Narsinh Temple that you can visit. You have to halt over for the night to resume your journey the next day.

  2. Day2 Drive from Joshimath to Jumma and trek to Ruing Village(9180ft)

    Proceed for Jumma, a picturesque village from where we will start our trek to Bagini glacier. The journey takes an hour and enroute we’ll pass many small hamlets. Upon arrival at Jumma, we start our trek to Ruing village – located on gentle slopes and amidst lush coniferous forests of firs, deodars and spruces. From here, we’ll trek further for 2-3 km and camp on a picturesque meadow.

  3. Day3 Ruing Village to Dronagiri(11840ft)

    This day’s trek will lead us into the forest through a path of inclines and descents with little streams that you will need to cross. The route to Dronagiri Village is full of mud slides and small rivulets, while you walk on the path that goes up and down. While trudging along the trail you’ll have a clear view of the snow-clad peaks of Hathi Parvat and Ghori Parvat. The Dronagiri village is a small settlement that lies in the alpine grassland ecological zone and at an altitude of 3610m ASL. After some rest one can also go for a hike to Bhumial God Temple closeby.

  4. Day4 Dronagiri to Longatolli(12460ft)

    After breakfast, we will start with a gradual climb followed by crossing a bridge on Dronagiri River, follow the true right bank and further a steep ascent to Longatolli campsite. This trail leads all the way towards the camping site that is located bang on the shore of a freshwater stream. After a night’s halt here, prepare your self for a long walk to the Bagini lower base camp on Day 5 that will be reached in 3-4 hours’ time. To reach the base camp, we need to trek further up.

  5. Day5 Longatolli to Base camp(13780ft)

    The trek to Bagini base camp is a lengthy one, but definitely cheering as you pass the scenic nature. Today’s journey will lead us through winding paths with clumps of rocks and boulders to a picturesque view of Rishi peak. To catch your breath, you’ll stop by the streams. And after your few hours of hike to Bagini base camp, we can retire for the night. You can witness the glacier drifts, the moraines and the ravines too.

  6. Day6 Base camp to Bagini Glacier(14816) and return to Longatolli

    We’ll start early today and would witness the beautiful sunrise by the mountains. The trek up Bagini Glacier will leave you dazed. Reaching the Bagini Glacier, you would feel as if you have landed on some other planet whose beauty cannot be measured. With peaks of Ghori, Dunagiri, Garur and Rishi encircling the glacier, you cannot expect to witness a thing or place as grand as this. Post-summit we make the trek back to Toli. The peaks of Trishuli, Kalanka and Changa Bhang will mesmerize you with their snow capped silvery mountain tops.

  7. Day7 Longatolli to Jumma and drive to Josimath

    Early morning leave for Jumma. This day we trek downwards. It has the same route and we’ll be accustomed to it.  From here we will be driven to Joshimath. It’s time to relax and recover from the trek. Overnight stay in a guest house.

  8. Day8 Joshimath – Haridwar

    Today will be the last day in the Himalayas! With a heavy heart we bid a goodbye to the Himalayas. After breakfast we shall depart for an early morning drive towards Haridwar. Arrive at Haridwar by evening and say goodbye to your trek mates. Bagini Glacier trek ends here.
