Pangarchula Trek – A beginners technical climb

The Pangarchulla peak, is a beautiful introductory peak. The trek poses just the right amount of challenge & is ideal for hikers who want to get a taste of climbing. The peak is 14,700 Feet, and can have a lot of snow till as late as May. The trail to Pangarchulla Peak has a variety of terrain. From Lush green farms to dense jungle & then a pristine white landscape. The views of peaks like Vasudhara falls, Mana, Mandir, Ghodi, Hathi, Barmal, Lampak Massif, Dronagiri, Nanda-Devi, and Bertholi can leave you humbled..

  1. Day1 Drive from Haridwar - Joshimath (6300ft)

    When you arrive at Haridwar in the morning, you will be picked up at the railway station and the journey begins from here to Joshimath. We get to traverse through the picturesque valley of Devprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnapraya – part of the Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand. Beyond this confluence, the river is known as Ganges. We shall have breakfast and lunch on the way at the local dhabas. What better way to taste the local cuisine! We shall arrive at Joshimath by evening, upon arrival we spend the night in a guest house.

  2. Day2 Dhak – Gulling (9600ft)

    To start the Pangarchulla trek we first drive to Dhak village. At this village we will start our trekking adventure to the Kuari Pass. We trek through a hemlock, oak and rhododendron forest for 3km before a short descent to the meadow and campsite at Chitra Kantha (3310m). The impressive snow-capped ridge, including Chaukhamba 1 (7138m), can be seen beyond Joshimath. The shepherds living between here and the Kuari Pass Trek are from Rishikesh or Haridwar and graze flocks of sheep and goats throughout summer. There is a small spring line at the head of the meadow for replenishing your water supply. Overnight stay at Gulling.

  3. Day3 Gulling – Khullara (11070ft)

    The next day trip is scheduled for a trek to Khullara which is based at an altitude of 11,122 feet. After having breakfast at the Gulling Top campsite, set out for the next trekking trail which is comparatively difficult from the ones covered. The trail to Khullara comprises of steep ascents and sharp curves meandering through rough terrains The scenic vista on the way is never compromised as through the difficult trails the trekkers can view the beautiful Himalayan peaks namely, the gigantic Nanda Devi, the mesmerizing Kalanka, the elegant Chang bang, the charming Dronagri, and not to forget the fascinating Hathi Parvat, and Gori Parvat. Apart from the sight of the prominent peaks one can also bask in the beauty of dense oak and walnut forest beautified with stretches of thick bloom of rhododendron flowers mainly in pink and red colors. Once the open space for the campsite of Khullara is reached, it’s a stop for the day. The evening is for leisure and relaxation. Overnight stay at Khullara.

  4. Day4 Khullara – Pangarchulla Peak Summit (14700ft) Khullara

    We will start early as this is the longest day on the Pangarchulla Peak Trek. First leg of today’s trek is a gradual ascend and then an arduous ascend to Pangarchulla Peak. Aim is to reach Pangarchulla summit around 11 in winters. Just imagine witnessing the view above the peak of Higher Himalayas and those snow- capped peaks changing color every second and there is no obstruction to the line of sight: a clear 360Deg view. After spending some time on the summit we will start our downward journey to Khullara. We should be able to reach Khullara by late afternoon. Overnight stay at Khullara.

  5. Day5 Khullara to Joshimath (6300ft)

    Today is an easy trek to Auli through the beautiful Gorson Bugyal. We will pass through Tali lake. The views of peaks like Hathi Ghoda, Barmal & Mana will be your constant companion in today’s trek. We will reach Auli by afternoon. From here we will board a taxi & reach Joshimath. Overnight stay in Hotel at Joshimath.

  6. Day6 Joshimath – Haridwar

    Today will be the last day in the Himalayas! With a heavy heart we bid a goodbye to the Himalayas. After breakfast we shall depart for an early morning drive towards Haridwar. Arrive at Haridwar by evening and say goodbye to your trek mates. Pangarchula Peak trek ends here.
