Stok Kangri Trek

One such trek is the Stok Kangri trek. The Stok Kangri peak belongs to the Stok ranges in the beautiful place of Leh- Ladakh in India. The Region of Leh Ladakh is situated at the height of 3500- 3800 meters above sea level. 

The Stok Kangri peak offers beautiful panoramas of the Karakoram and Zanskar ranges. The mountains gives a kick of adrenaline as you feel the summit nearing and are about to witness the beauty of the K2 peak, the second highest peak in the world. The Stok kangri trek is not that technical for the amateur mountaineers as it has straight-forward ascend, easy angled ridges and a short section of climbing. To reach our climbing objective we trek from Shang Sumdo on a little-used high-level trail, crossing several passes to reach Stok Kangri Basecamp.  The base camp offers unique and scenic route crossing two large passes which allows us to see more of Ladakh and increases acclimatization improving our chances of a successful summit attempt. This expedition can be done in 4 days if you are already well acclimatized to the altitude. Good physical condition and proper acclimatization are very important for a successful summit attempt.

  1. Day1 Delhi to Leh

    Flying  over  miles  and  mile o heavily  snowed mountains will tell you just why it is impossible to reach Ladakh by road in the winters. The moment you land at the Leh airport, one of the highest airports in the world, you will feel the fresh and crisp air, and a drastic drop in the temperature. Taking a stroll through the Leh market, you will find that very few shops and eateries in the town are open for business; The chill in the air will serve only as a preview of the temperatures during this winter trek. The night is spent in a cozy guest house.

  2. Day2 Leh – sightseeing and acclimatization

    Enjoy the cultural and natural beauty of Leh. This can be considered as a day to get familiar with the town and acclimatize to the weather conditions and high altitude. Leh is culturally a rich place. There are dozens of monasteries and ancient temples that you can go visit. They are located in and around town. Therefore you would be getting enough time to go around the place in a day. Overnight stay in Leh.

  3. Day3 Leh to Chang Ma via Stok village

    Drive from Leh to Chang Ma vai Stok village, it takes 35 minutes to reach Stok village. Trek starts from the Stok village. Stok Kangri trek with a tough trail and steep ascent till Chang Ma campsite is an excellent trek for adventurous trekkers. This trail offers mesmerizing views and the beauty of the campsite which adds magical charm in the evening. Overnight stay in the tents.

  4. Day4 Chang Ma to Mankorma

    Initially a slow walk uphill along a glacial stream followed by a small but steep pass. The route goes by impressive rock formations in the Stok Valley. Then it goes downhill until the creek, which we follow all the way to the night camp in Mankorma. Manokorma, the trail offers the picturesque view of the Ladakh, lovely villages and the sparkling rivers falling on the way which is a picturesque location for your shutter. An easy level ascent takes you Mankorma. After reaching the campsite, trekkers can enjoy the night in the sparkling stars by placing tents near the river banks.

  5. Day5 Mankorma to Base camp

    A couple of hours of trek takes you to the base camp. This exotic base camp is a pleasurable place. It lies in a grassy area. This area has a number of water bodies in the form of lakes and streams. During the day, you can walk on the upper areas of the campsite and enjoy the views of the surroundings. There are some beautiful peaks like Gulap Kangri, Parcha Kangri and many others. You can also take some rest at the base camp. You will get time to acclimatize yourself to the weather and altitude.

  6. Day6 Rest and training day

    Today is the rest day. Prepare yourself for the next day challenges. Trek leader will brief you about difficulties and the different equipment that will be used at the summit day during the trek. The stupendous weather and the snowy mountain peaks have scenic vistas which makes it suitable for adventurous trekkers. This day is an easy day for trekkers. You will get the time to go around and know the place to a much better extent.

  7. Day7 Base camp to Stok Kangri back to Base camp

    The night is very short, because we start to climb again when it is still dark – usually around 2am. With clear skies and good moonlight it is possible to go on without a head lamp. The route is also a bit steep at the start. It crosses a pass and rises steadily until you reach the Advanced Base Camp. There is a magic in the environment and the glacier of the Stok Kangri trek take you to a different world. Stok Kangri trekking trail is colder than many high altitude treks in the Himalayas. After few hours of climb, reach to the summit point and the place offers you the delightful views of the Ladakh and the surrounding peaks like Karakoram ranges and Zanskar ranges. Once here, take time to enjoy the view of the high altitude. After a short break, the route goes the same way back to the base camp.

  8. Day8 Base camp to Stok village and drive to Leh

    The last day trekking starts from the Base camp to Stok village, trekkers can spot the beauty of the snow-clad mountains which is a treat to the eyes. The breath-taking view of the Leh on the way is a must stop location for many trekkers. After reaching Stok village, depart to Leh and check in to the hotel for some well-deserved rest and dinner.

  9. Day9 Leh to Delhi

    Today will be your last day in Leh! With a heavy heart we bid a goodbye. After breakfast we shall depart for an early morning flight to Delhi. Stok Kangri Trek ends here.
